Hundreds of delegates from the camp of candidate Baba Jamal were presented with 32-inch television sets as voting is underway in the Ayawaso East by-election.
In a video posted by Citi FM, these candidates were seen exiting the office of the Nigerian High Commissioner at a time voting was still ongoing.
One candidate who spoke on condition of anonymity said the gesture is only to motivate them.
“The TV is for motivation, but it doesn’t determine who my vote goes to, which I can’t tell you. Just like others were scammed, the same will happen here, as the saying goes, ‘Fear candidates,’ he said.
The NDC parliamentary primary to elect the new parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency is ongoing in Nima, Mamobi, and Kanda.
The unfortunate passing of Ahmed Naser Toure, which occurred on January 4, 2026, paved the way for the by-election, while the Electoral Commission has fixed March 3, 2026, for the election in the constituency.
The wife of the late MP, Hajia Amina; Party Chairman, Mohammed Ramme; Ghana’s High Commissioner, Baba Jamal; and three others are vying for the seat.
The rest are Dr. Yakubu Azindow, Najib Mohammed Sani, and Salam Daru.
