“We’re taking significant steps to re-tool the Ghana Armed Forces, ensuring internal peace and security everywhere. Lasting peace shall surely return to Bawku and all affected areas. Let’s collaborate and build a safer, stronger Ghana together,” he stated.

Curfews and Arms Ban Imposed

In response to the recent violence, the government has imposed curfews from 2:00 PM to 6:00 AM in Bawku, Nalerigu, and their environs, effective Sunday, July 27, 2025.

The move, based on recommendations from regional security councils, is aimed at stabilizing the area and facilitating a safe evacuation of students from affected schools.

A total ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons has also been enforced. Anyone found in violation will be arrested and prosecuted.

Targeted Attacks and Government Response

The crackdown follows the tragic killing of two students at Nalerigu Senior High School by unknown gunmen on Saturday, July 26. The government has since ordered the evacuation of all students from conflict-hit zones to ensure their safety.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President, military deployment has now shifted from peacekeeping to peace enforcement, underlining the seriousness of the situation.

Call for Unity and Restraint

The government is urging chiefs, elders, youth, and opinion leaders in the affected communities to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to resolve their grievances.

“This is a moment for unity, calm, and collective responsibility. Peace must prevail,” the statement concluded.
