Defence Minister fires back at Rev. Ntim Fordjour over drug trafficking claims

Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, has publicly criticized Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee in Parliament, over recent claims that Ghana has become a hub for drug trafficking under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Rev. Fordjour made the allegations during a press conference, pointing fingers at the current government for a supposed surge in illicit drug activities.

In response, President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged a major drug bust involving $350 million worth of cocaine and directed security agencies to work with the Reverend to investigate the claims thoroughly.

However, Dr. Boamah did not take the comments lightly. In a strong-worded statement shared on social media, he accused Rev. Fordjour of spreading falsehoods rooted in political bias and a desire to gain attention within his party.

The minister urged him to refrain from what he called “reckless allegations” and described the accusations as part of a smear campaign against President Mahama.

Dr. Boamah also challenged Rev. Fordjour’s credibility, questioning how a religious leader could engage in such politically motivated attacks. He ended his statement by calling on the Reverend to “repent” and rely on facts rather than sensationalism.
