Deborah Seyram Adablah jailed for 45 days over contempt

Deborah Seyram Adablah, the young woman whose legal battle with a former bank executive went viral, has been sentenced to 45 days in prison. This follows a bench warrant issued for her arrest on May 5, 2025, after she failed to appear in court.

The jail term stems from videos she shared on social media in which she made disparaging comments about judges presiding over her civil suit. The court ruled her remarks contemptuous, leading to the custodial sentence.

In a video that surfaced online, Deborah is seen appearing emotional as she faced the judge. “This is not a life sentence, so I don’t expect anyone to laugh about it. It’s my life I’m trying to enjoy. Whatever comes with it, I’ll chest it,” she said.

Deborah became a trending name in 2023 after filing a lawsuit against Ernest Nimako, her former boss and then Chief Finance Officer at a leading Ghanaian bank. The lawsuit alleged that Nimako had promised to buy her a car, pay for her accommodation, provide a GH¢3,000 monthly allowance, and eventually marry her after divorcing his wife.

However, their relationship deteriorated, and he allegedly reclaimed the car and stopped supporting her financially. Her case sparked widespread debates on workplace ethics, personal accountability, and power dynamics.

Deborah Seyram Adablah’s imprisonment has again brought her into the spotlight, with many Ghanaians expressing mixed reactions online. Some sympathize with her plight, while others criticize her for disrespecting the judiciary.

As the story continues to unfold, it serves as a cautionary tale about online conduct and the legal consequences of public commentary.
