De Bruyne bows out quietly in final Manchester derby

Kevin De Bruyne’s last Manchester derby didn’t go as planned. The Manchester City star, who recently confirmed he’ll leave the club this summer, started Sunday’s match but couldn’t help his team break the deadlock in a 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

Despite playing the full 90 minutes, De Bruyne failed to create a single chance — something he hadn’t done in a Premier League match since 2018. It was a rare off-day for the Belgian midfielder in what was only his 13th appearance this season.

While the game lacked excitement, De Bruyne received high praise from United captain Bruno Fernandes, who called him a “world-class” player and credited him for raising the level of the Premier League.

“He’s going to stay in the history of the Premier League, not only of Man City,” Fernandes said.

It may not have been a fairy-tale finish in the derby, but De Bruyne’s legacy as one of the league’s greatest creators remains firmly intact.
