John Mahama

Two years after his exit, former president John Dramani Mahama is still the president of Ghana according to some school pupils in the Ada West District.

The DCE for Ada West, Adzoteye Akrofi and the District Education [ads1]Director were stunned to hear pupils answer “Mahama” when asked who the current President of Ghana was.

Mr. Akrofi asked six of Anyamam Presbyterian Primary pupils who the current President of Ghana was and three of them mentioned Mahama.

The other three mentioned former President Kufuor, the Greater Accra Regional NPP Chairman, Divine Otoo Agorhom and Erich Abayateye, the Assemblyman for Anyamam Electoral Area.

Unfortunately, none of the pupils asked in Akplabanya, Wekumagbe and other classes called at earlier mentioned the current President, Nana Addo Darkwa Akufo Addo’s name.

The situation was not different at the Kportitsekorpe public school as two pupils again mentioned Mahama as the president of Ghana.  However, one pupil eventually mentioned the present president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo when the same question was repeated at the Lolonya Basic School.

It would be recalled that similar issue came up during the late Atta Mills’ era when pupils mentioned the then opposition leader and now Present of Ghana,  Nana Akufo Addo’s name as the president of Ghana. Some Ghanaians put a political spin on the matter, sparking heated political debate in the country.
