Former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has rejected claims that his legal representation of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo creates a conflict of interest.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsnite, Dame dismissed criticism from legal experts, including former Ghana School of Law Director Prof. Kwaku Ansa-Asare, who suggested his involvement complicates the case due to his past role in Torkornoo’s appointment during his tenure as Attorney General.

“These concerns are baseless and unfounded,” Dame asserted. “This case goes beyond Justice Torkornoo, it challenges the unconstitutional nature of the process itself.”

According to Dame, the injunction application focuses on procedural violations in the Chief Justice’s suspension, not personal loyalty. He emphasized that the legal action aims to uphold constitutional principles and the rule of law.

Legal analysts say the case raises key constitutional issues regarding judicial independence and executive power. The application challenges President Mahama’s April 22, 2025, suspension order issued under Article 146, arguing it undermines due process.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on the application, which seeks to suspend the Chief Justice’s removal proceedings and invalidate the suspension warrant.

The high-profile committee probing the matter includes Justices Gabriel Pwamang and Samuel Adibu-Asiedu, as well as former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo.
