D-Cryme declares candidacy for SRC President at Methodist University

In an unexpected yet electrifying move, popular Ghanaian rapper D-Cryme has set his eyes on student leadership.

Known offstage as Darlington Agyekum, the “Kill Me Shy” hitmaker announced his bid for the presidency of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Methodist University Ghana via social media on April 7, 2025.

With a bold call for “transformational leadership,” D-Cryme urged fellow students to unite behind a vision rooted in transparency, accountability, and action.

His platform centers on critical student needs: improving academic support systems, enhancing welfare programs, developing campus infrastructure, and boosting access to scholarships and financial aid.

He also aims to cultivate stronger student participation in governance, building a community that is inclusive, responsive, and student-centered.

D-Cryme’s entry into campus politics marks a growing trend among Ghanaian creatives stepping into leadership roles within academia.

Notable figures like reggae/dancehall artiste Samini and rapper Guru have already made similar moves, Samini having served as SRC President at GIMPA and Guru currently leading at the University of Ghana.

With the energy of a performer and the vision of a leader, D-Cryme’s political debut could signal a powerful shift in how students perceive and pursue leadership.
