Cynthia Kwabi has successfully defended her Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Sheroes title, winning the tournament’s third edition after a commanding run through the draw on Saturday, February 21.
The Ghana Immigration Service athlete claimed her second successive Sheroes singles crown, having won the Sheroes 2 “Love Edition” just a fortnight earlier.
From the group stage, Kwabi wasted little time establishing her authority, advancing confidently into the knockout rounds alongside Joanita Borteye, Hilda Agbottah, Augustina Baidoo, Eva Adom-Amankwaa, Emerald Bortey, Bernice Borquaye, Celia Baah-Danso, and Emmanuella Yaa Kyere.
The last-16 stage set the tone for what was to follow.
Kwabi opened with a clean 3-0 defeat of Eunice Helena Quayson, while Bortey, Adom-Amankwaa, and Agbottah all won by the same scoreline. Baidoo survived the round’s tightest contest, edging Baah-Danso 3-2 in five games. Kyere, Borquaye, and Borteye also progressed without dropping a set.
The quarterfinals raised the stakes considerably. Kwabi was pushed to the limit by Emerald Bortey, eventually prevailing 4-3 in a seven-game thriller. Adom-Amankwaa matched that drama, defeating Baidoo by the same score.
Kyere was the standout performer of the round, sweeping past Agbottah 4-0, while Borteye edged out Borquaye 4-3 in another tense encounter.
The semifinals was more straightforward. Kwabi dispatched Adom-Amankwaa 4-1, and Borteye eliminated Kyere by the same margin to set up a final between the tournament’s two most consistent players.
The decider delivered in a tense, closely fought contest; Kwabi defeated Borteye 4-3 to lift the Sheroes 3 trophy and cement her place at the top of Ghana’s women’s table tennis scene.
