Actor turned politician John Dumelo has registered his displeasure with Parliament over the rejection of a motion meant to push the government to absorb fees of tertiary education students as Covid incentives.

The motion which was tabled before Parliament by Bawku Central MP; Mahama Ayariga was yesterday rejected by majority votes in the house.

In reaction, John Dumelo who contested on the ticket of opposition NDC in the Ayawaso West Wougon Parliamentary election said in a tweet that
“It’s a shame NPP MP’s voted against the suspension of tertiary fees.
Covid has affected many businesses negatively hence the inability for families to afford fees for their wards. Students risk deferring this semester……”

The ruling NPP caucus of the house had argued that the government has already done enough to support students in this time of Covid, hence cannot accept the moment filed by the Bawku Central MP.

However, the farmer and philanthropist say the hardship Covid has brought to Ghanaians should have been a benchmark for the NPP side of Parliament to wholeheartedly accept the motion because if it was accepted, it would have benefited both NPP and NDC parents and students.
