Col. Dominic Buah, Director of Operations at the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), has assured the public that all excavators and weapons seized during anti-galamsey operations are fully accounted for and securely kept.
He disclosed that a total of 94 excavators and 59 weapons confiscated in the course of recent operations have been properly documented and stored at undisclosed locations pending further directives from government.
Col. Buah explained that the decision to withhold the storage locations was to ensure the safety and integrity of the seized equipment and prevent any possible interference.
According to him, strict accountability measures have been instituted to track all confiscated items, addressing public concerns over the handling of seized equipment in the fight against illegal mining.
He emphasised that NAIMOS remains committed to transparency and operational efficiency as it collaborates with other state agencies to clamp down on galamsey activities.
Col. Buah reiterated that the ongoing operations form part of broader efforts to protect Ghana’s environment, particularly its forest reserves and water bodies, from degradation caused by illegal mining.
He assured that the items would be dealt with in accordance with government policy and legal frameworks once final decisions are taken.
The assurance comes amid heightened public interest in the management of confiscated equipment in anti-galamsey operations across the country.
