Clean and safe drinking water has finally begun flowing to residents of Anyako, Seva and surrounding communities in the Keta Municipality following the commissioning of the Anyako-Seva Water Supply Project.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, joined the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, and other government officials to commission the project on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Vincent Kuagbenu, the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Wisdom Seade, as well as other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
Mr. Gunu said the commissioning of the project marked the end of nearly two decades of water challenges faced by residents of Anyako, Seva and nearby communities in the Keta Municipality.
He noted that the project was designed to improve access to safe drinking water and enhance the health, dignity and daily lives of the people.
According to him, the modern water supply system includes a hybrid solar-powered pumping system, water treatment facilities, transmission pipelines, rehabilitated reservoirs, an extensive distribution network and smart-tap standpipes to ensure sustainable water management.
Mr. Gunu expressed gratitude to President Mahama and the Government of Ghana for prioritising the needs of communities in the Volta Region and delivering what he described as a life-changing intervention.
He also announced that plans were underway to extend household pipe-borne water connections to homes in the beneficiary communities between June and December 2026 to further expand access to potable water.
The Regional Minister commended the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, contractors, consultants, traditional authorities and residents of Anyako, Konu and Seva for their cooperation and patience throughout the implementation of the project.
He emphasised that access to safe water was a basic human right and said the commissioning of the facility marked another milestone in efforts to improve livelihoods and accelerate development in the region.
Mr. Gunu assured residents that government would continue to deliver essential infrastructure and development projects to communities across the Volta Region.
