Awake News’ visit to the Akatsi Central Market today revealed a growing sense of relief and optimism among traders and shoppers as prices of essential goods continue to decline ahead of Christmas, a development many residents attribute to the economic direction of the John Dramani Mahama-led government.

From foodstuffs to basic household items, market women and consumers told Awake News that the cost of living this Christmas is noticeably lower compared to the same period under the previous NPP administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Traders at the market confirmed that prices of staples such as rice, maize, cooking oil, tomatoes, onions, and poultry have either stabilized or reduced, making it easier for families to prepare for the festive season without excessive financial strain.

“This year, customers are buying more,” a tomato seller said. “Last Christmas under the NPP, people complained every day about prices. Now, things are coming down, and we can see the difference.”

Shoppers also expressed satisfaction, noting that their purchasing power has improved, allowing them to plan for Christmas meals, clothes for children, and travel to their hometowns with less pressure.

Many residents credited the improvement to what they described as better economic management and price stabilization policies under President John Dramani Mahama, contrasting it with the high inflation, currency depreciation, and rising cost of living experienced during the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia era.

According to some traders, the change has restored hope among small-scale businesses, which suffered declining sales in previous years due to soaring prices and reduced consumer spending.

The improved market conditions have significantly lifted the Christmas mood in Akatsi, with sellers reporting increased activity and renewed confidence as the festive season approaches.
