After Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Cape Verde at the AFCON, an unidentified supporter allegedly attempted to assault Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
The assault is reported to have occurred at the team’s hotel.
According to many accounts, the assault spurred Ghanaian officials on the scene to intervene quickly, rescuing Coach Hughton before the perpetrator was handed over to the Ivorian authorities.
The motive behind the attack is unknown, leaving football fans perplexed as to why the enraged football devotee targeted the coach.
The event in Abidjan has placed a pall over the Black Stars’ campaign, underscoring the team’s struggles both on and off the pitch.
Hughton took over as Ghana’s manager in 2023, following 13 years of coaching in England.
