Chief of Army Staff Under Fire over Responds to Critics

A section of the General public have condemned the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Opong-Peprah over his response to allegation of juju in the Ghana Armed Forces, describing his statement as tribal.

According to some them, the COAS sounded very arrogant and tribalistic which signifies bad leadership style, adding that the country’s defense force is in a total jeopardy under his watch as a supposed Chief of Defense Staff.

Others believe that Major General Opong-Peprah is engaging in pure political propaganda which to them is unfortunate, noting: “The Ghana Armed Forces deserve better.”

They reiterated that the COAS comments were very tribalistic and disrespectful to senior officers in the service and an embarrassment to the GAF as an institution.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah was responding to allegations against him, claiming that he is a victim of juju in the military but he won’t die. According to him, he is a proud Bono from Dormaa Ahenkro and he is not going anywhere.

“They claim I am an Akyem but I am a Bono. I am very proud I come from Dormaa Ahenkoro. We speak the b3b3 and I love it”, he added.

The awakenewsroom.com in an interview with the Executive Secretary of Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) a Civil Society Group that promotes proper democratic principles and protect human rights, Mr. Azubila Abdul-Salam Emmanuel stated that, the supposed appointment of Opong-Peprah is bringing a lot of tension within the GAF. “This is not the first time a CDS has been appointed in Ghana, and so why is Major General Opong-Peprah’s supposed appointment creating serious tension”? He queried. “A COAS responding to juju allegations in the service without making his military police who gave him the video to arrest that juju soldier”? Mr. Azubila wondered.

He asked if Opong-Peprah can make those juju videos available to the public.

With regards to his tribe as a Bono, Mr. Azubila Abdul-Salam dared the COAS to tell Ghanaians if he has no Akyem connection. “Can Opong-Peprah tell Ghanaians if his wife is not an Akim from the Okyehene’s palace?”. “Is that what our GAF has been reduced to?”, he asked.
