The Central Tongu District is set to host the AgriWoman Summit, a women-focused agricultural empowerment programme aimed at promoting female participation, innovation, and investment in agribusiness.
The initiative is the brainchild of Ms. Yvette Emefa Gbeve, the Deputy Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Tongu Constituency. According to her, the summit seeks to equip women with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to actively engage in agriculture as a sustainable source of livelihood.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ms. Gbeve noted that women remain a critical yet under-supported force within Ghana’s agricultural value chain, particularly at the community level. She explained that the AgriWoman Summit is designed to bridge this gap by promoting capacity building, access to support systems, and increased investment in women-led agricultural enterprises.
She therefore appealed to investors, private sector players, development partners, and government agencies to support and invest in women in Central Tongu, stressing that empowering women in agriculture is crucial to achieving food security, job creation, and local economic development.
The AgriWoman Summit is expected to bring together women farmers, agribusiness operators, industry stakeholders, and development actors to explore opportunities and practical solutions for advancing women’s participation in agriculture within the district.
