A member of the National Communications Team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Presidential Staffer, Beatrice Feehi Annangfio, Esq., has called on Ghanaians to acknowledge recent gains in the stability of the Ghanaian cedi, describing them as significant achievements against the backdrop of the country’s longstanding structural economic challenges.

Madam Annangfio, a lawyer and economic policy expert with a strong grounding in financial markets, energy, and sustainability, made the remarks in a statement shared on her official social media page. She noted that Ghana’s economy remains largely import-dependent, a reality that has historically exerted sustained pressure on the local currency.

According to her, maintaining the relative stability of the cedi and recording some appreciation in December should therefore not be trivialized.

“Considering the kind of structural economic challenges inherited, and Ghana being mainly import dependent, for the cedi to maintain relative stability and even appreciate in December is no mean achievement,” she stated.

Drawing on her background in Economic Policy Management and Financial Markets Law, Madam Annangfio dismissed suggestions that currency stability is easy to achieve, cautioning the public against political narratives that downplay the work of the government’s economic managers.

She stressed that the NDC government is focused on substance rather than spectacle, with a clear appreciation of the need for long-term economic sustainability.

“This government is not organizing kenkey and waakye parties. The Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance recognize that the real challenge is sustainability,” she emphasized.

Madam Annangfio further argued that if stabilizing the cedi were as straightforward as some critics claim, previous administrations would have delivered similar outcomes.

“But let no one deceive you that this is easy to attain. If it were so easy, their economic messiah would have done so,” she added.

The respected political communicator and former Deputy Spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Campaign concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain confident in the NDC government’s economic recovery agenda and policy direction.

“Trust the NDC government and trust the process,” she said.

Her comments come amid heightened public debate on currency performance, inflation control, and broader economic recovery measures being implemented by the current administration, with many analysts noting the importance of consistency and sustainability in economic management.
