CAF Postpones 2026 Women’s AFCON to July

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced new dates for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after postponing the tournament following logistical challenges affecting preparations for the tournament.

The tournament which was scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, the competition will now be held from July 25 to August 16, 2026. The revised dates place the tournament shortly after the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

CAF explained that the decision was taken after consultations with key partners, including FIFA and other stakeholders, to ensure the successful organization of the continental showpiece.

In recent weeks, media reports suggested that the host, Morocco were considering withdrawing from staging the tournament due to logistical concerns. Amid the uncertainty, officials in South Africa reportedly expressed readiness to step in and host the event if necessary.

However, CAF remains confident that Morocco will stage the tournament successfully, stating that preparations are ongoing and progressing steadily.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 will also form part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana’s women’s national football team, popularly known as the Black Queens, has been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon’s women’s national football team, Mali’s women’s national football team, and Cape Verde’s women’s national football team as they aim for a strong showing at the tournament.
