Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has clarified that B1/B2 (business and tourist) visas remain valid and available, despite recent concerns about US visa restrictions.
According to the Ambassador, the United States Department of State has not suspended B1/B2 visas for Ghanaians. He explained that the current pause announced by the US government applies only to certain categories of immigrant visas, and does not affect non-immigrant travel such as tourism, business, conferences, medical visits, or short-term educational activities.

Speaking to address public anxiety, Ambassador Smith urged Ghanaians to disregard misinformation circulating on social media, stressing that normal visa application processes for non-immigrant travel to the United States are continuing as usual.
He further assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is in constant communication with US authorities and will promptly inform the public of any official changes.
The clarification is expected to bring relief to travelers, investors, students, and tourism stakeholders, including the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and the Ministry of Education, whose work relies heavily on international mobility.
The Ambassador encouraged applicants to rely on official government communication channels for accurate information regarding visa policies.
