The Central Regional Child Protection Committee (CRCPC) has identified bullying as a pressing concern in communities and schools, prompting the development of a collaborative approach to address this issue.

It said that over the years, the region was faced with numerous cases of bullying in some schools, which had led to severe and long-lasting consequences on victims, including emotional distress, decreased self-esteem, and increased risk of mental health problems.

The committee has, however, agreed to establish Anti-Bullying Clubs in schools and communities to help create a safe and supportive environment that promotes social-emotional learning, empathy, and kindness.

Madam Ivy Amartey, the Regional Director of the Department of Children in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the CRCPC was committed to ensuring the protection and safety of every child in the Region.

Bullying, she emphasised, required a comprehensive and collaborative approach by all relevant stakeholders for redress and called on all bodies to get on board to halt the menace in the Region.

The anti-bullying clubs are a positive step by the CRCPC towards creating a safe and supportive environment for all individuals, particularly children.

Violence against children is a pervasive global crisis, impacting over one billion children annually.

Its consequences extend beyond immediate harm, leading to long-term mental health issues, chronic diseases, and significant societal challenges.
