BTU introduces flexible study options for working professionals

The Bolgatanga Technical University has announced the introduction of flexible study programmes designed to support working professionals seeking to advance their careers.

Dr Chilala Osman, Head of the Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies at the University, disclosed this during an engagement with the leadership of the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Police Service in Navrongo.

Dr Osman emphasized the University’s commitment to providing opportunities for career development without disrupting work schedules of interested persons.

“We have tailored our programmes to accommodate workers through evening and weekend classes,” he stated, adding “this initiative is aimed at individuals who may not be able to participate in regular weekday sessions due to work commitments.”

Dr Osman encouraged the heads of the security services to support their staff who are interested in upgrading their skills and qualifications, noting that the modern workplace demands continuous learning and professional development to ensure improved efficiency and productivity.

Highlighting the programme offered by his department, he said BTU runs Bachelor of Science, Higher National Diploma (HND), and Diploma programmes in Secretaryship and Management Studies and Business Administration, all designed with flexible schedules to suit the needs of workers.

“The Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies are dedicated to developing skilled professionals in office administration, business communication, and organizational management.

“Our programs blend theory with hands-on training in modern office technology, governance, and executive support services”, Dr Osman explained.

He further revealed that BTU currently has over 15 departments, each offering career-aligned programmes accessible through flexible delivery modes and called on all workers interested in furthering their education to take advantage of the university’s evolving structure.

In response, the leadership of the various security agencies commended Dr Osman and BTU for the initiative, promising to encourage more personnel to enrol onto the programmes.

Deputy Superintended of Police, Mr Lawrence Adombire, the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Police Commander, acknowledged that several of their staff who had graduated from BTU were already performing exceptionally well in their respective roles.

Mr Augustine Bopaam, the Deputy Director of Prisons, Navrongo Central Prisons, reiterated that as security officers they need to be equipped with modern skills and knowledge to be able to confront the emerging global trends such as social, political and economic crimes.
