British actor Idris Elba to establish world-class film studio in Accra

British actor and filmmaker Idris Elba has announced plans to establish a world-class film studio in Accra, Ghana.

This project is part of Idris Elba’s broader mission to revitalize Africa’s film industry and provide a platform for African storytellers to showcase their talents.

Idris Elba’s vision for the film studio was unveiled during a courtesy call on King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, at his palace in Accra.

The actor was warmly received by Justice Naa Yaale, Chief of Staff to the Ga Mantse, and was honoured as a son of the Ga land.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures from Ghana’s entertainment industry, including actors George Nii Armah, Chris Attoh, and Adjetey Anang.

The proposed film studio will be situated on 22 acres of land beside Osu Castle in Accra.

Idris Elba’s initiative aims to provide training and employment opportunities for young Ghanaian creatives, while positioning Ghana as a major hub for African cinema.

The studio will also serve as a platform for promoting authentic African narratives and preserving cultural heritage through storytelling.

Idris Elba’s commitment to empowering African storytellers is not limited to Ghana.

He has also announced plans to establish film studios in other African countries, including Tanzania.

This pan-African approach underscores Elba’s dedication to transforming the continent’s film industry and promoting cultural exchange between African nations.

The Ga Mantse has pledged his full support for Elba’s project, highlighting its potential to shape the future of Ghana’s youth.

“Our children lack direction, our youth lack direction, and we need these tools,” the Ga Mantse asserted.

He added, “So, coming in to put up a studio and to partner with us is the way forward”.
