The Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Justice Srem Sai has hinted at more troubles for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi.
In the Facebook post, the Deputy AG said “Suspect BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, is under investigation for various criminal offences (including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering).”
According to him, “the criminal investigation is running concurrently with asset recovery processes – to prevent further dissipation of what law enforcement agencies strongly suspect to be proceeds of crime.”
He also said “The suspect [Chairman Wontumi] is also under a second strand of investigation which is part of a lager international organized crime scheme.”
“The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is assiduously working with our international law enforcement partners on this second strand of criminal investigations.” – he added
Mr. Antwi Boasiako has been under detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) since yesterday after he was picked up when he was returning from the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Services where he was charged with illegal mining.
The EOCO today has granted him a GHc50million bail with two sureties to be justified. He is reported to have gotten one person making his still in the EOCO cells.
