About 6:00pm on July 9, 2025 the news broke that the Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah aka Otumfour Nana who went missing for six days was found dead and burnt. This sad story sent another shock wave across the country similar news came from the Volta Region days before

Where is Otumfour Nana?

“It’s been a truly terrible week. Since July 3rd [2025], our good friend and brother, Otumfour Nana, has been missing. He’s a dad with two kids, and we’re all so worried. Every day that passes without news feels longer and harder.

This whole mess started back in January [2025]. Our new government had just taken office, and a friend [Bright] of Otumfour Nana’s came to him with an idea. This friend was someone he knew from their favorite football club, Kotoko. The friend said, “There are lots of new jobs coming up. Find people who need work, and I’ll help them get hired.”

Otumfour Nana trusted this guy. He had helped people get jobs before, and he also had strong connections in the NDC party, so there was no reason to doubt him. So, Otumfour Nana found several people, including some of his own family members, who desperately needed jobs. They all paid money, hoping to get employed.

He handed all that money over to the friend. He didn’t know it then, but this was the start of all his problems.

Most of the people who paid didn’t get any jobs. From January until now, these people have been hounding Otumfour Nana to get their money back. He tried many times to get the money from the guy, but it never worked.

The pressure on Otumfour Nana grew and grew, until he was even arrested and held at the Ashongman Estate police station. Luckily, his family and friends helped him get out on bail.

After he was released, he put even more pressure on the guy to return the money so he could pay everyone back, especially his own family. It was a constant back-and-forth, with no end in sight.

Then, finally, on July 3rd, the guy [Bright] called Otumfour Nana. He told him to meet at Aggie’s spot in Ashongman Estate to get all the money – almost GHS200,000. Otumfour Nana must have felt a huge wave of relief. He immediately called everyone involved to tell them the good news. His friends wished him luck as he left home around 8 PM to meet the guy [Bright].

About 8:30 PM, he texted one of his friends. The meeting place had changed. The guy now wanted him to come to his house in Ashongman Estate instead. Since it was easy to get there from the first spot, Otumfour Nana just went to the guy’s house.

When he reached the gate, he texted his friend again. He was at the gate and would call as soon as he was done. This was the last time anyone ever heard from Otumfour Nana.

That same night, around 8:59 PM, a strange message was sent from his phone to everyone he was close to. It said: “He has given me all the money. 500,000 ghc, He said I should keep 300,000ghc, he would come for it later. I just got home. I will call you .”

But this message didn’t sound like him at all. The time it was sent, the misspelled words – it just wasn’t the Otumfour Nana we knew. Still, everyone waited for his call.

He never called. By Friday morning, July 4th, people started calling him back since he hadn’t called as promised. His phone was off. One of his friends who lived nearby went to his house to check on him. He only found Otumfour Nana’s nephew, who lived with him. The nephew said that Otumfour Nana had left the house around 8 PM the night before with just a small bag and hadn’t come back.

Then came another shocking detail. That same evening, around 8 PM, two police officers had come to Otumfour Nana’s house asking about him. They said someone reported giving him GHS500,000 and hadn’t heard from him. It turned out these police officers were friends of the same guy [Bright] Otumfour Nana had gone to meet!

The guy hadn’t filed a real police report; he just sent his friends, the officers, to check the house.

The guy then started calling Otumfour Nana’s friends, pretending to be worried and asking if they’d seen him. But every time he told his story about that night, it changed. When asked when Otumfour Nana left his side, he said around 8 PM, which didn’t match when Otumfour Nana actually left his own home [Gye Nyame House, Musuku Junction at Kwabenya]. And when asked why he claimed he gave GHS500,000 when he only owed less than GHS200,000, he said he had a friend over and didn’t want the friend to know about the extra GHS300,000, so he gave it to Otumfour Nana to keep for him. It was clearly a made-up story.

After waiting for 24 hours, the police at Taifa police station were finally told what happened.
The guy was arrested on Sunday evening and went to court yesterday. He’ll be kept in custody for two weeks while the police investigate. But right now, we still don’t know where our friend is.

We are desperate for any information that could help us find him. Please, if you know anything at all, it would mean the world to us.”
