Big Akwes apologizes to Cina Soul

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Big Akwes has issued a public apology to singer Cina Soul after making disturbing remarks during a televised interview that she described as threatening.

The incident occurred during a segment on Bryt TV, where Big Akwes was asked to play the “Kiss-Marry-Kill” game. When prompted to choose between actress Vivian Jill and Cina Soul, he said he would marry Jill. However, he followed up with graphic and unsettling comments about killing Cina Soul using a “magic mirror,” stabbing her repeatedly, and drinking her blood.

Cina Soul, born Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, reacted swiftly on social media. In a tweet posted July 1, she said she felt genuinely threatened by the actor’s words and called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Communications to take immediate action.

“I’m deeply unsettled… I feel genuinely threatened. We must not normalize this kind of dangerous rhetoric,” she wrote.

Her post went viral, sparking public outrage. Many condemned both Big Akwes and Bryt TV for broadcasting the segment.

Big Akwes Responds

In response to the backlash, Bryt TV invited Big Akwes back on air to clarify his comments. The actor claimed the segment was meant to be humorous and had no malicious intent.

“It was just for entertainment. I never meant to harm her. I learned her mother was scared, and for that, I’m truly sorry. Mummy, please don’t worry. My words were not meant to be taken literally,” he said.

He extended an apology to Cina Soul, her family, friends, and anyone disturbed by his comments.

Bryt TV Issues Statement

Bryt TV also posted an official apology alongside the actor’s statement.

“We extend our sincere apology to Cina Soul and our cherished audience for any unintended offense caused. We remain committed to upholding respect and responsibility in our content.”

Public Reaction

The apology has stirred mixed reactions. While some appreciate the swift response, others insist that media platforms must screen harmful content more rigorously and avoid trivializing violence, especially against women, under the guise of entertainment.
