Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is hopeful his side will rely on their experience in the Champions League to hurt tonight’s rivals Arsenal. Thoma’s Tuchel’s side is struggling in domestic competitions but made their experience count against Lazio in the last round.
However, Arsenal is on a different level even if they had to advance via penalties after a 1-1 draw over two legs. The Premier League leaders pose a big threat to Tuchel’s hopes of salvaging his already dissipated team’s honour.
Speaking ahead of their meeting at the Emirates on Tuesday, Thomas Tuchel didn’t feel shy to play their experience game.
“We have more experience in the Champions League. It’s different in the Champions League compared to the Premier League. We want to use that to our advantage,” he told reporters.
About Arsenal’s quality, the former PSG and Chelsea manager said the English league leaders can hurt any team from dead ball situations.
“They are the best team in Europe currently in terms of dead-ball situations,” he pointed out.
“In every game, they are dominating in the toughest league in the world. That is a sign of their quality. We haven’t shown that form in the league but tomorrow we aren’t playing in the league,” Tuchel stated.
“If we show the best version of ourselves tomorrow then we can compete at the highest level. This is what we have to do.”
Arsenal’s captain, Martin Odegaard has been an instrumental spin in the team’s progress this season. The Norwegian international has 3 goal involvement in seven appearances in Europe this season.
“Odegaard is one of the key players. We know very well how he wants to start their attacks and the connections between him and Bukayo Saka,” Tuchel as per beIn Sports.
“I hope that we find the right solutions and the players will find the key to make life difficult for him.”
Tuchel also admitted their season has been bad and accepted criticism of the results.
“We’ve been rightly criticised after our performances in the cup and the league. We accept that. The consistency in our performances wasn’t what we expect from ourselves,” Tuchel acknowledged.
About Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta, Tuchel has nothing but praise for the Spanaiard. He said it was a difficult welcome to North London for the former Manchester City assistant but he had been able to build culture around his style.
“There’s been a complete change in culture since Arteta joined, it is clear what way the club wanted to go with him and the club are harvesting that.
“It was a difficult start, but the team stood by him and they overcame the difficult phase. Tactically they are at a very high level, they are very stable against the ball. You have to give them a big compliment.”
