Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep appreciation to a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament who have pledged their support for his 2028 flagbearer bid.
On Thursday morning, about 67 MPs visited Dr. Bawumia at his office in Accra to formally endorse his candidacy. Speaking to the media after the meeting, he described their endorsement as a strong show of party unity.
“It was a happy visit. A courtesy call and a declaration of support. I’m very grateful,” he said. “With this group, I now have over 60 MPs backing me. Out of 88, that’s a clear majority.”
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this support from Parliament is crucial, noting that MPs play a powerful role in their constituencies. “This is not just a gesture, it reflects the confidence and trust our MPs have in my leadership,” he added.
He also urged the lawmakers to move beyond endorsements and focus on rebuilding the party. “Let’s get to work. Our goal is to strengthen the NPP and offer a real alternative to the NDC,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia closed his remarks by thanking God and reiterating his commitment to the party and the nation.
