Bagbin Commissions Awudome Traditional Council Building, Cuts Sod for 8-Unit Classroom Block in Ho West

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who is also Togbe Nuteƒeworla I of Awudome, has commissioned the renovated Awudome Traditional Council building and cut the sod for the construction of an eight-unit classroom block at Anyirawasi E.P. Primary School in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.

The dual ceremony, held at Awudome and Anyirawasi, brought together chiefs, opinion leaders, government officials and residents of the area to witness what many described as a significant milestone for the Traditional Area.

Commissioning the renovated Traditional Council edifice, Rt. Hon. Bagbin underscored the sacred responsibility of chieftaincy and the need to preserve Ghana’s rich cultural heritage as a foundation for sustainable development. He noted that strong traditional institutions remained vital partners in national development, particularly at the grassroots level.

The Speaker emphasised that respect for customs, unity among chiefs and collaboration with government were essential in addressing the development needs of local communities.

At Anyirawasi, he cut the sod for the construction of an eight-unit classroom block for the E.P. Primary School, a project expected to improve teaching and learning conditions in the area. He reiterated the importance of investing in education as a means of empowering the next generation and securing the future of the country.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, who joined the chiefs and people of Awudome for the ceremony, commended the Speaker for his continuous commitment to the development of the area.

He reiterated that the Volta Region, which has about 100 paramountcies, must continue to strengthen its traditional institutions as symbols of peace, unity and stability.

Mr. Gunu stressed that sustained partnership between government and traditional authorities was crucial to accelerating development across the Region and ensuring that communities benefited from inclusive growth.

Following the commissioning and sod-cutting ceremony, the Speaker joined the chiefs for their first Traditional Council meeting in the newly renovated building, marking a new chapter in the administrative and cultural life of the Awudome Traditional Area.

The event was characterised by cultural displays and expressions of appreciation from the chiefs and residents, who pledged their continued support for development initiatives in the area.
