Babs Direction urges TV stations to back Ghanaian content over foreign films

Ghanaian music video director Awudu Musa, popularly known as Babs Direction, is calling on local television stations to prioritize homegrown content instead of constantly airing foreign movies.

His call to action follows a complaint by Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye, who accused some Ghanaian TV stations of broadcasting her films without authorization.

The controversy sparked widespread conversation about content ownership and programming choices in the Ghanaian media space.

Reacting to the issue in a Twitter post on April 23, 2025, Babs Direction questioned the preference for foreign content, often dubbed in local languages, over original Ghanaian productions.

“Why are our local TV stations more focused on broadcasting foreign movies instead of investing in original Ghanaian content?” he asked.

He further urged broadcasters and creatives to collaborate in developing authentic stories that showcase Ghana’s culture.

According to him, such partnerships will not only promote local talent but also strengthen the country’s creative industry.

By shifting focus to Ghanaian content, Babs believes local networks can help shape a stronger national identity and provide meaningful opportunities for creatives.
