Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has been declared the winner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary was held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, to elect the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election slated for March 7, 2026, by the Electoral Commission.
The final provisional results saw Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed gather 431 votes; Hajia Amina Adam, wife of the late MP, secured 399 votes; Mohammed Ramme garnered 88 votes; Dr. Yakubu Azindow had 45 votes; and Mohammed Najib had one vote.
These figures reflect the combined totals from the two voting centers in Nima and Kanda.
The tightly contested primary attracted significant public interest, particularly amid discussions around campaign conduct.
During the primary, Baba Jamal’s campaign distributed items such as 32-inch television sets to delegates gestures he maintained were acts of goodwill and not intended to influence the outcome.
His tight competitor, Hajia Amina Adams, was not left out, as her campaign team also gave out items and cash to delegates.
Before the primary, Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, projected a win for Hajia Amina Adams with 58% while Baba Jamal was unlikely to exceed 38%, citing recent polling data and prevailing voter trends in the constituency.
