Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has accused Effutu MP and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of failing to deliver on his pledge to bring back former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta by May 2025.
Ayariga’s remarks came during a fiery session in Parliament on Tuesday, June 3. He referenced a statement made by Afenyo-Markin on February 18, where the Minority Leader assured the House that Ofori-Atta would return from a medical trip abroad by May to assist with investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
“Mr. Speaker, he promised this House he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May. We are now in June. Where is Ken? Where is Ken?” Ayariga asked sharply.
He didn’t stop there. Ayariga challenged Afenyo-Markin’s credibility, stating that a leader who makes promises in Parliament should be held to them.
“You came here and made a promise. You stood on this floor and assured us. Now we are in June, where is Ken Ofori-Atta?”
“When you make promises and fail to fulfill them, you lose the moral right to challenge others,” he added.
The Majority Leader wrapped up his remarks with a call for integrity and consistency in leadership, urging all MPs to honor their commitments if they expect to be taken seriously.
