Ayariga condemns NHIA Director’s murder in Nangodi, urges calm

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, has condemned the killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

Mr. Akugri was reportedly shot and his body set ablaze in Nangodi, a town near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. The incident has shocked many across the region.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 20, Mr. Ayariga described the act as “gruesome” and “dastardly.” He extended his condolences to the bereaved family, referring to Mr. Akugri as a “comrade.”

He urged security agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I call on everyone to remain calm and continue supporting peace efforts led by His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, aimed at resolving the Bawku conflict,” the statement said.

Mr. Ayariga also praised the youth of Bawku for their recent restraint and reaffirmed a collective commitment to lasting peace. He cautioned against any action that could reverse the progress made toward stability in the area.
