Thousands of indigenes and well-wishers thronged the Avenor Traditional Area earlier today to participate in the historic Datsutagba pilgrimage, a significant spiritual and cultural highlight of the annual Avenor Tutu Do Festival.
The solemn procession, which marks a deep ancestral connection of the Avenor people, brought together traditional leaders, youth groups, cultural troupes, political party representatives, and visitors from across the country and the diaspora. Clad in traditional regalia and symbolic artefacts, participants embarked on the sacred journey to reenact ancestral rites handed down through generations.
Led by chiefs including Torgbui Tetegefu, Torgbui Aho, Torgbui Tali Gafatsi, other revered chiefs representing the president of the Avenor Traditional Council, Torgbui Dorglo Anuma, and custodians of Avenor heritage, the Datsutagba pilgrimage is revered for its spiritual purification significance and is considered the most powerful moment of the Tutu Do Festival. Elders explained that the ritual serves as a collective renewal of unity, protection, and blessings for the Avenor State.
This year’s observance drew one of the largest crowds in recent years, with youth playing an active role in preserving the area’s cultural identity. Many described the experience as emotional, transformative, and a powerful reminder of Avenor’s rich traditions.
Organisers of the festival expressed their appreciation to participants and called for sustained efforts to preserve the Datsutagba pilgrimage as a national cultural treasure. They further appealed for government and private sector support to promote tourism within the Avenor enclave.
The Avenor Tutu Do Festival continues in the coming days with durbars, cultural displays, inter-community competitions, and other activities expected to attract even more visitors.
