Work has begun on the asphalting of the Penyi-Denu Tokor stretch of the Ho-Aflao Road in the Volta Region, marking a significant milestone in government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance economic activities in the area.
The project forms part of the government’s strategic infrastructure drive under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, aimed at upgrading critical road networks to facilitate trade, improve transportation, and promote regional integration.
Awakenews.com.gh observed that construction equipment and personnel were actively engaged on site, with sections of the road undergoing preparation and asphalt layering.
The Ho-Aflao Road serves as a vital corridor linking several communities and constituencies within the Volta Region and plays an important role in facilitating cross-border trade between Ghana and the Republic of Togo.
Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, has reiterated government’s commitment to delivering quality road infrastructure to support economic growth and improve the living conditions of citizens.
Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, also commended the government for prioritising infrastructure development in the region, noting that the project would enhance connectivity and stimulate local economic activities.
Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, and Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South, have also welcomed the commencement of the asphalting works, describing it as a major boost to development in their respective constituencies.
NagFairMount Construction Limited, the contractor executing the project, is expected to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe.
Residents and road users have expressed optimism that the completion of the project would reduce travel time, improve road safety, and promote business activities in the area.
The Ho-Aflao Road reconstruction is part of broader government efforts to modernise Ghana’s road infrastructure and support national development.
