The Ashaiman Municipality has taken delivery of 10000 birds in line with the Nkukor nkitikiti program of HE John Dramani Mahama. Hopefully from next week, with the help of Hon. Ernest Norgbey, the beneficiaries will each receive their 50 pieces, feed support, and technical guidance to ensure the survival and sustainability of the project.
The program, which is not just a job-creation intervention but a deliberate policy to curb the heavy importation of frozen chicken, will involve distributing three million poultry birds.
is a key component of the broader Feed Ghana Programme, designed to guarantee food sovereignty and shared prosperity.
It is designed to bring poultry production directly to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian, in homes, in schools, and in communities across the country.
Beneficiaries will receive birds, feed, and other supplies to start their poultry businesses, transforming subsistence into self-sustaining livelihoods.
Individuals, farmers, or households must generally belong to community-based farmer organizations (cooperatives) should they show interest.
Also, to qualify for this initiative, one must register with their local Agricultural Extension Agent (AEA) or District Agricultural Office and possess suitable, secure space for poultry, with priority given to vulnerable, women-headed households.
