Ashaiman Chieftaincy Saga: Amorkotse We Accuses Tema Traditional Council of Nepotism

The rightful heirs to the Ashaiman Chieftaincy title, Amorkotse We, have accused the Tema Traditional Council of an act of nepotism.

According to the family, the Tema Traditional Church has deliberately connived with other families to customarily and unilaterally confine Issac Annang in preparation for his enstoolment as Ashaiman Mantse.

They mentioned that the Tema Traditional Council has ignored and treated them with iron hands despite a series of meetings with the Amui Tse We, the clan of Isaac Annang.

Addressing the media in a short interview on Sunday, Naa Ashika Ashai, sister to Baba Ashai Ibrahim, the apparent heir to the throne, said the Tema Traditional Council has been sponsored by Amui Tse We to unlawfully claim the seat.

“The Tema Traditional Council does not give us listening ears anymore because we could not meet their demands as compared to Isaac Annang, who has greased the palms of the Tema Traditional Council,” Naa Ashaika said.

According to her, the reason why the Traditional Council has consistently ignored their request is due to financial constraints, adding that Amui Tse has funded all activities of the Traditional Council, other families, and youth groups in Tema Newtown.

She stressed that the Traditional Council from the onset had their support and always called for calm when meetings were held to resolve the issues but had to cross paths because of their selfish interests and demands.

Osa Ashai, the son of Baba Ashai Ibrahim, said all stories widely spread by the Tema Traditional Council of receiving a 5 million cedi bribe as a form of compensation are entirely untrue.

He argued that his father (Baba Ashai) is a man of prestige and dignity and that all the speculations are to tarnish his reputation.

Osa Ashai added that, should there be any form of truth with regard to receiving 5 million cedis as alleged by the people of Tema Newtown, he would have first confirmed and counted it right in front of his father. “Not even one penny did we receive from anyone. But to the people in Tema Newtown accusing us of selling our chieftaincy rights will be duly served by Karma,” he added.

Mr. Joel Adjetey Adjei, the secretary for Nii Ashai of Amorkotse We, cautioned the Tema Traditional Council to eschew destroying the image of the family.

He empathized that the Traditional Council should be fair and honest in all their dealings, adding that they won’t allow sleeping dogs to lie because they will push their demands to the highest authorities until the issue is resolved amicably.

According to a report by the blog The Tema Story, Isaac Annang, formerly known as Nii Annang Adzor, was appointed as the Regent of Ashaiman in 2012.

His enstoolment was deemed illegal and unlawful as unilaterally performed by some family members, which was strongly rejected by the Tema Stool and the Tema Traditional Council, who did not recognize his enstoolment.

On Saturday, 4th April 2026, a delegation of his family members, led by Sheriff Ashitey Amarh and former Tema Mayor Yohane Amarh Ashitey, formally appeared before the Tema Stool and the Tema Traditional Council to render an apology for the actions of the faction that enstooled him.

The Tema Traditional Council, heads of families, together with the Tema Dzaase, accepted the apology and received all customary items presented.

A cow was slaughtered to appease the ancestors through the pouring of libation.

This reaffirms the earlier decision that Nii Annang Adzor ceases to be the Regent of Ashaiman and remains one of the beloved sons of Tema. Henceforth, he will be known as Isaac Annang.

However, it was again reported by The Tema Story that Isaac Annang has been customarily confined by the Tema Traditional Council in preparation for his enstoolment as Ashaiman Mantse in the coming days, where he will be officially addressed as Nii Annang Adzor III at the Ashaiman Chief’s Palace.
