Arrest anyone using my name to shield galamsey – Muntaka to Security Agencies

Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka Mohammed has made it clear that no one will receive political protection in the government’s fight against illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.

Addressing top security officers at the 17th Regional Commanders’ Conference in Accra, the minister stressed that he would never intervene to exempt anyone involved in galamsey operations, regardless of political affiliation.

“I will not send you into the forest only to call back and ask you to exempt someone. That will never come from me,” Muntaka declared.

He further instructed the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and officials of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest anyone who uses his name or falsely claims his endorsement to shield illegal miners.

“If someone calls and claims to be me, let the CID arrest that person immediately,” he added.

Muntaka’s tough stance comes amid rising public concern over political interference in law enforcement, particularly in mining areas where influential figures are believed to be protecting illegal operations.
