Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has praised striker Rasmus Hojlund after what he described as the young forward’s best performance under his leadership.
This came during United’s commanding 3-0 Europa League semi-final win over Athletic Club on Thursday night.
Although Hojlund did not score, he played a pivotal role in the first-leg victory, winning the penalty that led to a red card for Dani Vivian and contributing significantly to United’s attacking flow.
Amorim lauded his hold-up play, off-the-ball movement, and overall contribution, calling it a turning point in Hojlund’s season.
“It was the best game he had with me as coach,” Amorim said. “He helped the team a lot. He secured the ball and made runs. It was a good moment for him.”
Amorim also drew a parallel between Hojlund and Harry Maguire, who has recently resurrected his United career after being on the brink of an exit.
He emphasized that football careers can change dramatically and encouraged his players to stay focused through tough times.
United now return to Old Trafford with a strong aggregate lead, setting them up well for the second leg, while fans will be hoping this performance marks the beginning of Hojlund’s resurgence.
