Amaliba accuses GBA of political bias over CJ suspension

Legal practitioner Abraham Amaliba has voiced strong disappointment in the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), criticizing it for what he perceives as a return to political partisanship.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mr. Amaliba reacted to the GBA’s recent statement on the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo.

He lamented that the association, which had recently shown signs of impartiality and professionalism, is now exhibiting behavior suggestive of favoritism toward the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Amaliba praised an earlier GBA statement as “one of the most forward-looking” in two decades, noting its neutrality and commitment to legal integrity. However, he now feels that the GBA has regressed.

“The bar is always critical when the NDC is in power,” he stated, adding that he had hoped the earlier impartial stance signified a new era. “But now this is a case of what I would term as habits once cultivated are difficult to discard.”
