The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a temporary road closure along a section of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in Accra’s Central Business District to allow for urgent repair works.

The closure will take effect from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, to 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, according to a statement signed by Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs, on behalf of AMA Chief Executive Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey.

The affected stretch includes the U-turn at Lava and the section between the Derby Avenue/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection and Selwyn Market Street.

The AMA explained that the move follows the development of deep potholes and road depressions along the route, which have increasingly disrupted traffic flow and posed safety threats to motorists and pedestrians alike.

To manage the situation during the four-hour repair window, the AMA has advised all motorists to use alternative routes and obey traffic diversions. Officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service will be on-site to help manage vehicular movement, alongside clear directional signage.

The AMA also noted that paving works will follow after the repairs to improve the durability of the road surface.

“The AMA deeply regrets any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause and appeals for public cooperation as we work to enhance road infrastructure and safety in Accra,” the statement concluded.
