Alban Bagbin Launches Political Inclusion Project to Boost Parliamentary Consensus

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially launched the Political Inclusion and Consensus-Building Project, an initiative spearheaded by the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, aimed at promoting unity, inclusiveness, and effective collaboration within Ghana’s legislative arm.

The project seeks to enhance cross-party engagement and encourage issue-based cooperation among Members of Parliament, while also deepening the participation of women and young people in political processes. It further aims to reduce political polarization and institutionalize dialogue beyond electoral cycles.

According to the Speaker, the initiative should not be viewed as a routine training programme but rather as a deliberate democratic investment in the future of Parliament and the country’s governance architecture.

“If we are serious about building a Parliament that delivers results, then consensus-building cannot be optional; it must be strategic and sustained,” he emphasized during the launch.

Member of Parliament, Eric Edem Agbana, who participated in the programme, described the initiative as an important step toward fostering a more inclusive and solutions-driven legislative culture. He expressed optimism that the project would help shape a Parliament better positioned to address national challenges through cooperation rather than division.

The Political Inclusion and Consensus-Building Project is expected to equip lawmakers with the tools and platforms needed to strengthen dialogue, encourage mutual understanding across party lines, and promote a governance approach anchored on national interest and shared responsibility.

Observers believe the initiative comes at a critical time when strengthening democratic institutions and building trust across the political divide remain key to Ghana’s continued democratic development.
