Insider information picked by Awake News indicates that there is the likelihood of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members of parliament elect boycotting their swearing-in process.
The information added that the MPs-elect is in a closed-door meeting to boycott their swearing-in, to prevent president-elect Nana Akuffo-Addo from being sworn as the president and use that to demand a re-pcoallaction of Techiman South Constituency parliamentary results. The re-collation when done in view of the NDC will give them a majority hence their ability to elect the speaker of parliament.
The intended action of the NDC stems from Article 93(1) which states that “There shall be a Parliament of Ghana which shall consist of not less than one hundred and forty elected members.”
From this interpretation there would be no parliament and if no parliament president-elect, Akuffo Addo cannot be sworn in.
Legally what the law is saying is that there shall not be a parliament whose membership shall is less than 140 elected members, this in other terms means membership of only the NPP 137 can not constitute a parliament hence their inability to swearing-in president Akuffo Addo if the NDC boycotts their swearing-in. Even when the independent candidate is added to the NPP, they will not add up to the 140 requirements of the Constitution.
However, if president Akuffo Addo and his NPP government continue their criminal lawsuits against the NDC MPs and they are not able to be sworn-in we there will not be a parliament.
Lately, as there has being a fight over who will choose the speaker of parliament, some sympathizers of the NDC are clinching on to the song that says “God will make a way where there seems to be no way” especially for the one being bullied.
Another question that begs for answers is how then will governance be run in the absence of government machinery …….

Consensus with NDC:
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu says President Nana Akufo-Addo has made no efforts to build consensus with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the 2020 polls.
President Nana Akufo-Addo faces a hung Parliament in his second term in office which will begin on January 7, 2021.
In contrast to 2016 where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) secured a record majority with 169 seats in Parliament, the governing party’s representation dropped to 137 seats in Parliament.
The NDC matched the NPP by also winning 137 seats in Parliament in the December 7 polls.
Speaking at a press briefing organised by the leadership of the 7th Parliament ahead of its dissolution tonight, January 6, 2021, Mr. Iddrisu said “the President, after the elections said he will reach out and compromise, but I ask today, what has he done as at now to reach out to the NDC and His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama? In the Spirit of building this consensus, I have not seen the President take any such step”.
“It is important that he does that because when he takes even 40% of the ministers, the Majority Leader will lack numbers on the Floor of Parliament. And he will appreciate what it is to lack members in the chamber to form the quorum required to take a decision in Parliament.”
