Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended Independence Anniversary wishes to Ghanaians, urging citizens to uphold the ideals that underpin the nation’s freedom and democratic development.
In a message shared on his official social media platforms to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day, the former President reflected on the deeper meaning of the country’s independence and the values that must guide future generations.
According to him, Ghana’s independence represents the enduring truth that ideas play a crucial role in shaping national progress and governance.
“Our independence, for us and for future generations, represents the abiding truth that ideas matter; that philosophy shapes politics; that institutions outlive individuals; and that as it is said, eternal vigilance remains the price of liberty,” he stated.
Akufo-Addo emphasised that strong institutions and a collective commitment to democratic principles are essential to sustaining the freedoms won by the country’s forebears.
He concluded his message by wishing citizens well as they celebrate the historic milestone, stating: “Happy Anniversary, Fellow Ghanaians.”
Ghana marks its independence every year on Ghana Independence Day, celebrating the country’s liberation from British colonial rule in 1957 and honouring the sacrifices of its founding leaders and patriots.
