Akua Donkor to be laid to rest Saturday, March 29

The founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, will be laid to rest next weekend in her hometown of Ejuratia in the Ashanti Region.

Born in 1941, Akua Donkor was a renowned Ghanaian politician and farmer who dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of farmers, women, and marginalized communities.

Throughout her illustrious career, Akua Donkor demonstrated unwavering resilience and determination.

She first ventured into politics as an assemblywoman for the Heman electoral area in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region.

Her passion for leadership and public service drove her to contest in multiple presidential elections, including the 2012, 2016, and 2020 elections.

Akua Donkor’s commitment to grassroots advocacy earned her a reputation as a fearless voice for the voiceless.

Her campaign promises focused on implementing free education from basic to secondary levels, eliminating import taxes, and establishing a free zone at the Tema Port to attract businesses.

She passed away on October 28, 2024, at the age of 83, while receiving medical treatment at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

Her death was met with an outpouring of tributes and condolences from supporters, colleagues, and opponents alike.

As the nation prepares to bid farewell to this remarkable leader, the Ghana Freedom Party has announced the funeral arrangements.

Akua Donkor will be laid in state on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Ejuratia, followed by a burial service and funeral rites.

A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Ejuratia.

However, as she is laid to rest, her legacy as a champion of grassroots advocacy and a trailblazer in Ghanaian politics will continue to inspire generations to come.
