The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has announced that this year’s 69th Independence Day celebration will be marked with a municipal-wide sanitation exercise instead of the customary parade.
A statement issued and signed by Mr Umar Issah, Municipal Coordinating Director, on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, said the anniversary would be observed on Friday, March 6, 2026, under the national theme: “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”
The Assembly explained that due to prevailing operational constraints, management had to forgo the traditional parade and instead organise a clean-up exercise across all electoral areas in the municipality.
The statement noted that the sanitation exercise would serve as a practical demonstration of civic responsibility and community commitment in line with the spirit of the Independence Day celebration.
Assembly Members have been invited to take active part in the exercise within their respective electoral areas and mobilise community members, youth groups, market women and other identifiable stakeholders to participate fully.
The statement added that the presence and leadership of Assembly Members at the local level would reinforce patriotism and collective responsibility.
The Municipal Chief Executive is also expected to embark on monitoring visits to selected schools within the municipality and later interact with pupils at designated centres.
Assembly Members have been encouraged to support and collaborate with school authorities within their electoral areas to ensure orderly and meaningful participation.
The Assembly urged all stakeholders to treat the invitation as important and make the necessary arrangements to ensure a successful and impactful commemoration of the day.
Copies of the statement were extended to the Presiding Member of the Assembly, the Municipal Director of the Information Services Department, and the Municipal Environmeantal Health Officer.
