The Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, has presented livelihood equipment and assistive devices to 33 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the municipality to support their economic activities and improve daily living.

The support was provided through the District Assemblies Common Fund allocation dedicated to persons with disabilities and was delivered solely in the form of equipment and productive tools, with no cash disbursement to beneficiaries.

Items distributed included deep freezers, mobile cassava milling machines, sewing machines, refrigerators, plastic chairs, a laptop, a printer with desktop computer, a motorised tricycle, and other inputs to assist beneficiaries in establishing or expanding small businesses.

The beneficiaries were drawn from communities captured in the official distribution records, including Akatsi, Avenorpeme, Avenorpedo, Avadare, Bayive, Gefia Kpota, Tuime, Atidzive, Safotsi-Dagbakofe, Kpokplui, Wlitey Sakpakukope, Akatsi Zongo and other surrounding communities within the municipality.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Daniel Dagba explained that the initiative is aimed at equipping them with the necessary tools to become economically active and self-reliant. He stressed that the intervention is designed to promote dignity through productivity and create sustainable sources of income.

The MCE cautioned beneficiaries against selling the items, noting that the equipment was meant to serve as long-term livelihood support. He assured that he would personally monitor the beneficiaries from time to time to ensure the items are used for their intended purposes.

Officials from the Department of Social Welfare indicated that the distribution followed a needs-based assessment, with each beneficiary receiving equipment aligned with their skills and proposed economic activity, including agro-processing, tailoring, trading, and food preservation.
