The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly will hold a Special Meeting on Friday, February 27, 2026, to elect a new Presiding Member to oversee the legislative functions of the Assembly.
According to an official notice issued by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Issar Umar, the meeting is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. prompt at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly Hall. The communication, issued on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, formally invited all Assembly Members to attend and participate in the electoral process.
The election of the Presiding Member forms a key part of the Assembly’s constitutional and administrative responsibilities, as the Presiding Member chairs Assembly meetings, guides deliberations, and ensures the effective discharge of the Assembly’s oversight and decision-making roles.
The notice also outlined a structured agenda for the special meeting, which will begin with an opening prayer and roll call to confirm a quorum.
The Municipal Chief Executive is expected to introduce the new Municipal Coordinating Director, followed by an official communication on the vacancy.
Members will then nominate candidates for the position of Presiding Member, after which an election will be conducted by secret ballot under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.
Results will be declared and the elected Presiding Member will be sworn into office and invited to give acceptance remarks.
The meeting will also cover the presentation and adoption of sub-committee memberships before moving to any other business and adjournment.
The statement emphasised that attendance is mandatory, noting that the election requires the participation of all Assembly Members to ensure the validity of the proceedings.
Under Ghana’s local governance framework, a Presiding Member must secure at least a two-thirds majority of members present and voting to be elected.
The upcoming election is expected to enable the Assembly to fully reconstitute its committees and continue deliberations on development planning and service delivery within the municipality.
The meeting will also mark an important administrative transition with the formal introduction of the newly appointed Municipal Coordinating Director.
Residents and stakeholders in the Akatsi South Municipality are anticipated to closely follow the outcome, as the leadership of the Presiding Member plays a pivotal role in shaping local governance and development priorities.
