The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has withdrawn the referral of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.
The decision follows recent developments surrounding comments made by the Minority Leader regarding alleged irregularities in recruitment within the security services.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin had earlier been referred to the Privileges Committee after concerns were raised in the House over the remarks, which some Members of Parliament argued required further scrutiny.
However, the First Deputy Speaker announced the withdrawal of the referral during proceedings in Parliament, effectively halting the committee process on the matter.
The issue had generated intense debate in the House, with members of the Majority Caucus calling for the Minority Leader to substantiate the claims he made about the security services recruitment.
The withdrawal means the Privileges Committee will no longer proceed with the referral unless a fresh motion is brought before the House.
