Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South, has urged members of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of Akatsi College of Education (AKATSCOE) to remain united, disciplined and committed to the ideals of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said unity and discipline within the student wing were critical to strengthening the party’s structures and advancing its social democratic principles.
Mr Ahiafor gave the advice in a speech delivered at the handing-over ceremony of the TEIN AKATSCOE Chapter on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Akatsi.
He described the event as not merely a transition of leadership but a celebration of continuity, renewal and commitment to a shared political vision.
The MP noted that TEIN, as the student wing of the NDC, had evolved into a formidable intellectual and grassroots force within the party’s political tradition since its formation between 1992 and 1994 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
He said TEIN served three key purposes: engaging students in active political discourse and participation, advocating youth-centred policies and opportunities, and strengthening the party’s electoral machinery through mobilisation, education and grassroots campaigning.
Mr Ahiafor commended TEIN members across the country for their contributions to the party’s performance in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 general elections, particularly in mobilising young voters across tertiary institutions through door-to-door campaigns, rallies, digital engagement and constituency-level organisation.
He lauded the outgoing executives of the AKATSCOE Chapter for their service and dedication, acknowledging the demands of leading an active political youth organisation.
He urged the newly sworn-in executives to regard their positions not as mere titles but as mandates to organise, educate, mobilise and defend the principles of social democracy.
The MP further advised the new leadership to leverage digital tools responsibly to enhance registration, engagement and mobilisation efforts, stressing that internal unity remained essential to the party’s growth.
“When TEIN is strong, the NDC is strong. And when the NDC is strong, Ghana benefits,” he stated, encouraging collaboration with the party’s Youth Wing and constituency executives.
Mr Ahiafor reminded members that while leadership positions were temporary, service to the people and commitment to national development must remain constant.
The ceremony was attended by constituency executives of the NDC, TEIN patrons and coordinators, outgoing and incoming executives, and other invited guests.
