The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has referred the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities over allegations he made concerning irregularities in recruitment into the security services.

The referral follows claims by Mr. Afenyo-Markin that there were improprieties in the ongoing recruitment processes within certain security agencies. The First Deputy Speaker indicated that the matter required further scrutiny to determine whether the statements made on the floor of Parliament breached the House’s rules or constituted contempt.

The Committee on Privileges and Immunities is expected to examine the allegations and report its findings to the House for further action.

The development has heightened tensions between the Majority and Minority caucuses, with members calling for transparency and due process in addressing concerns surrounding recruitment into the security services.

Parliament is expected to await the Committee’s report before taking any final decision on the matter.
